Foiled Potato

14 Terrific Uses For Foil

0

foiled potatoIt’s an ongoing argument in our house. Which side of the aluminum foil goes up? Shiny or dull?

According to Reynolds either side works for cooking. I, of course, beg to differ. It has been my experience that the shiny side tends to stick to food more than the dull. So, dull side up when lining pans. And in case of sealed packets containing food, shiny side out.

Some other uses for foil:

  1. Out of dryer sheets? Crumple a sheet or two into a ball and place in the dryer. It will prevent static. It doesn’t matter which side is out.
  2. Ball up a sheet or two and use as a scrubber for your BBQ grill. Be truly green and use the ball you just used in the dryer.
  3. A ball of foil also does wonders in cleaning glass baking ware. Again, shiny or dull, either side will do the trick.
  4. But, use the shiny side to polish chrome.
  5. Line your ironing board with foil – shiny side up. The foil will keep heat and moisture on your garment making ironing less of a chore.
  6. Ironing the foil a few times will also keep your iron clean.
  7. Place sheets of foil on furniture to keep pets off. Pets will hate you and, more importantly, will hate your furniture.
  8. Hang foil in whatever shapes you like in your fruit trees. Birds will hate you and, more importantly, your fruit trees – leaving more fruit for you to enjoy.
  9. Mix thin strips into your garden mulch. Garden pests will hate you and, more importantly, your garden.
  10. Cut those strips using old scissors to sharpen said scissors.
  11. Clean silverware and silver jewelry. Put a sheet of foil into a shallow dish filled with hot water and a tablespoon or two of powdered laundry detergent (be sure it does NOT have bleach, and, yes, it must be the powdered variety). Add silver items and allow to soak a few minutes. Rinse items and air dry.
  12. Put a sheet, shiny side up under plants that require a great deal of light – geraniums, for instance.
  13. Is your brown sugar hard as a rock? Well, wrap the chunk in foil and bake at 300 for a few minutes. All soft now.
  14. And remember that aluminum is the traditional gift on a 10th wedding anniversary.
