Super Treasure
While the entire planet was watching the Super Bowl a few weeks ago, I went to the antique mall. My “real” reason for visiting was to pick up my 1099 (a type of W2 for dealers), look around a bit and then show up as late as possible to a Super Bowl party.
Then I saw this.
And my heart stopped. Before I even knew what the price was, I knew it was coming home with me. Um, well, the piece is huge, something like 46×66 … and it wouldn’t fit in my little Saturn Ion. It did, however, fit into my niece’s Saturn Vue.
The tatters and stains on the lower portion made it all the better. I’m guessing it hung in public place – a hotel lobby perhaps? The colors and theme of the tapestry are perfect for my home. It’s definitely a rather big statement piece.
Hanging in a part of the mall that is typically filled with new dealers, it was the find and, at $65, the steal of the decade. The frame itself is worth a solid $200. I should feel guilty, shouldn’t I, taking advantage of a new dealer? Nah.
