So Sorry

Excuses, Excuses

so sorryWhich shall I use?

  • Full-time job?   It’s a good excuse.  Full-time jobs tend to be time suckers, right?  Mine also happens to suck the creative out of me.  I don’t mean that in a bad way.   I write and create layouts/graphics at work, so that desire is satiated when I get home.
  • Laziness?   It’s may not be a politically correct excuse, but I’ll admit to having a few “eh’s” and picking up the knitting needles or crochet hooks instead of my keyboard.
  • Other commitments?  I have been writing — just not blogging. I’m working on a short story that must be finished this weekend and I’m writing a book on the antique business.  How’s that for ambitious?  Yep, this is the one I’ll use.

The short story I’m working on is for the Writer’s Digest contest.  We’ll see how it does.  Since the contest limits each story to 1,500 words or less, being able to write very tightly certainly helps.  I credit years of writing and producing short spots for TV.  Ironically, it’s all that experience writing for visual media that may also be my downfall.  My stories tend to be 80% dialogue.  I need to practice writing descriptives.  Win or lose, I’ll post the story here after the contest has ended.

I started a book on the antique business before I got hired full-time.  What began as a small booklet has morphed into a full-pledged manuscript.  There is just so much to the business that a small booklet just won’t do.  It’s quite a project, but I’m thoroughly enjoying it.

So, that’s how I spent my fall.  How ’bout you?
