Foreign Language Decorating

0

What I love most about the worldwide web is access to foreign websites and blogs.

Though I read only English and a smattering of German, pictures say a lot.  I’ve been following several needlework and decorating blogs from France, Russia, Italy and Brazil – just to name a few.  I’m learning a few key words here and there.  It’s fun, but a bit frustrating when there’s a technique you really want to try yet can’t make out exactly what it says.

Some foreign bloggers, though, have mirror English sites.

vista casaOne such site is Visita Casas. The original site is, I think, in Portuguese. The mirror site on how to decorate your home is in English.

It looks to me as though she is using translator software of some sort, though, because some of the English is a bit shaky.  For instance, this post on How to decorate your little boy’s room is a bit rough — but you get the gist of it.  Isn’t it interesting that American is a design trend for others worldwide … and meanwhile we Americans are are hot on French or Scandinavian design right now?  Funny, funny.

Anyway, getting past the language barrier — whether with translator software or by posting copious photos, I find very commons threads among all who love their homes and decorating.  No matter what language we speak or in what country we live, home is sacred.  We all want a beautiful, comfortable space for ourselves, family and friends.

Home definitely is where the heart is and I think that’s true the world over.
