Legwarmers – Chic or EEK?
Knit* and Crochet Inspiration of the Week.
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, these fashion icons are making a come back. The idea isn’t a new one. Victorians, I believe, called them spats.
Traditionally, leg warmers were the domain of ballet dancers. Jazzercisers took the idea … and ran with it.
Although, warmers maybe a bit of a misnomer. Lacy numbers like these above couldn’t possibly keep anything warm.
Barbie? Is that you?
*This feature was formerly known as crochet inspiration of the week. I add knit to the title, because I do and like both yarnie past times.

My mom made me legwarmers for my freshman year at college (in Maine). Uh, didn’t last long. I was nearly laughed out of school. Please don’t bring them back!

I like leg warmers. It must be the 80′s child in me. But I’d totally rock them…under my jeans.

Actually the long sock/like leg warmers are quite fashionable with the teens. My 14 yr old daughter wears mismatched pairs with her skirts. I know there are some great sites out there with patterns for these but they are basically easy to make as well….just LLOOONNGGG socks. The arm warmers are also a big hit

I LOVE the lace oness, second from the bottom. Where are they fromm? Or something like them in that off white cream colour?
Aren’t they neat? Unfortunately, it’s just a random image I saved of something I liked. I’m trying to be better about noting where I find photos now.
Luv, luv, Luv! the striped spat legwarmers and the matchy matchy pinky pinky!!! I too, am vintage, I wore them in the eighties and I’ll wear them again when I go out and shake a leg, lot of us still do. I like to be fashionable, not into the orthopedic look yet, ha ha. Don’t like the new ones though, rather make my own. How can I get these patterns?? please please
Thank you
Lupe
I love the legwarmer look ONLY when done in a less silly way. I hated it with workout gear, but then I started yoga, and the studio gets kinda cold, so I re-discovered them, but not with unitards or leotards. Yoga pants and a tank, thats fine… a tunic style shirt and stockings with skinny boots, fine, thigh high? not so fine. just below the knee, cute.
