Just what an eclectic serial decorator needs — a new style to incorporate into her already mashed up style.
It’s called Steampunk and I love it! What is Steampunk you ask? Well, think of the era when steam power was the major energy/utility that made stuff go and work. Now, think of HG Wells and the fabulous science fiction that features Victorian-ish-type technology. Think of time machines and gears and knobs and submarines in your blood vessels.
Are you still with me?
Steampunk usually refers to science fiction literature and movies, but it has been co-opted for a fabulous decorating style. Specifically it applies to beautifully decorated technology …
… like this gorgeous TO DIE FOR desktop computer. It’ll be mine just as soon as I win the lottery. Then, I’ll hire its creator to do the same to my flat screen TV, my frig, washing machine and coffee maker
Here’s another computer from Steampunk Maestro Datamancer. Yes! It is a real working computer! The vintage typewriter is the keyboard.
This one is a bit over the top for me, but it’s still fantastic.
I’m definitely going to follow this trend to see where it goes.
And speaking of serial decorating, A Lovely Thing will be undergoing another reno. I’ve finally, finally found the PERFECT WordPress theme that is tweak-able to my hearts-content. Life is good.

O.M.G. I sooooo need that first computer. Where-oh-where did you find that image? A neighbor of mine wants to turn his Ms. Pacman machine into a home computer, but this is ASTOUNDING. Put up more images if you find them! XOX
Isn’t it fabulous?! I saved that image a while ago. It’s definitely a Datamancer.net creation. You’d think that a wise computer company would pick up on this trend to pimp ones electronic devices.
I am so happy to run across your site. It seems to me,I’ve finally found a style that appeals to my “quirky” sense of style. I love the workstation photo you have… after digging around on the web, I see I am not alone. Whew! LOL! Keep posting more… can’t wait to see what else you present.
@AlexisCeule
Why thank you for the encouragement, Alexis.
Wow! I’d just seen this style in jewelry, not in decor. How cool!
I’m really into the steampunk finds lately too. Even the fashion totally intrigues me. Its quite a look.
I’m into the steampunk fashion and sorts. I’d like to find some folks in the Reno area that would like to get together and even go out in our fashion.
Hey Katrina, I live in the Reno NV area and I am look for the same thing. Let me know if you find a group or something. Thanks
