Pennies Per Square Foot

penny tiled floor at standard grill nyc

Now THIS is thinking outside the tile box! I’m squinting at my crappy, coming up at the edges linoleum floor in the kitchen and husband’s penny jar.  Although, several questions come instantly to mind.  How did they get the pennies so evenly spaced? Glued them to a netting first perhaps? And what type of grout is that?

This floor is inside a restaurant in NYC.  If it holds up for them, it should wear well in a residential setting, too.  Love, love, love it. Into the idea file it goes.

I wonder just how much that Penny floor cost them? It is an interesting idea though. I am sure they have had there fair share of people trying to dig out some of those pennies. I have seen some shops around here glue quarters to the sidewalks in front of there stores just to get people to stop. What some companies wont do to get your business.

Love this too but I wonder how they set it into the nets first (which can totally tell they did b/c you can see the squares in the upper part of that picture). But its gorgeous and from a materials perspective – way cheaper than marble.

You could probably create a sort of template out of wood so the pennies are perfectly spaced each time. Not easy but worth it.

It looks like plain old unsanded black grout to me.
