Upcycle Your Own Leather
Once upon a time, this incredible leather bag was someones coat, or pants, or skirt. Imagine what can become of YOUR leather jacket collecting dust deep in your closet. No. No. You mustn’t be a master seamstress at all. reMade USA can do the designing and the stitching to create a unique masterpiece from your discard clothing.
Designer extraordinaire Shannon South is the owner of reMade USA, a California based company that specializes in recycling old leather garments and scraps into one-of-a-kind handbags. All the bags are hand made in San Francisco.
Along with special orders from customers who supply their own leather, the company also sources materials from the furniture upholstery industry and thrift stores. Of course, they welcome donations of any kind of leather. For those consumers who don’t happen to have a leather coat hanging around, there are beautiful specimens from which to choose on reMade USA’s website.
The beauty continues on the inside of each bag where vintage scarves get new lives as linings.
One word of warning: when you fall in love with a bag, buy it immediately. They are, after all, one-of-a-kind pieces never to be duplicated exactly. Every bag has its own unique patina due to the wear and imperfections of the used leather, and the patterns are retired after 10 to 14 bags. Each bag has its own serial number, too.
Gorgeous, durable and eco-friendly, Shebeezies highly recommends reMade USA.
