roses and yarn

Oh my gosh, I just committed to teaching knitting and crocheting classes at a local arts & crafts center this summer. How crazy is that for someone who has never taught a class before — much less a series of classes to adults AND tweens?
There has been a hook in my hand since grade school — many decades. Knitting needles came later, but I feel I’m pretty good at both. Translating that confidence to others is a completely different, and untested, skill.
I’m as excited as I am nervous, though. Fiber arts has come back into vogue in a big, big way. Perhaps we’re trying to balance all this technology that we love and use with something tactile and creative. Sites like Ravelry (which, I am a member of, but haven’t fully explored yet) are a great representation of that balance.
A Harvard study shows that knitting and crocheting are as beneficial to your health as meditation, bringing down your heart rate and blood pressure. No wonder you see so many people (men, too) just stitching away over their lunch hours!
I will just love passing these arts on to others and see what they can create. Now I’m worried that no one will sign up! Keep your fingers crossed for me!
