CROCHETED CURTAINS

in Crochet, Decorating

I love to crochet. I spent many years toiling over tablecloths and doilies — only to have an accident with a drink (wine, coffee, soda — you name it!) ruin my hard work.

So I’ve focused on crocheted curtains instead. No one can possibly stain something hanging in a window, right? Haha — if it can be done, my hubby (love him) will find a way!

These white ones used to hang in the kitchen windows of our old house.

When we moved into the townhouse, I put two in the home office windows with the new black drapes — but they didn’t really fit … a tad to short width wise.

One of my to-do projects was make new ones. Well, one is finished. Hurray!

It’s really a simple pattern and I’m charting it out as I do the second one. I’ll post the chart here if I can figure out how to get it into digital form ;)
I like the pineapple motif. Here’s a closer look.

It just adds a bit more dimension with the pineapple edge. Plus, since these windows don’t go to the floor like my old kitchen windows did, the shorter cafe length fits better.

I choose burgundy because I wanted a bit more color at the windows — and I have a few scrap pieces of toile that will (someday!) be used in a project for the same room.

Now — don’t hold your breath for the second one to be finished anytime soon. In the meantime, I will have mis-matched curtains. LOL

Wow, those are beautiful!

You asked about my source for lavender..I got it at Save on Crafts
http://www.save-on-crafts.com/index.html
They do have bunches as well as buds. The lavender I bought from them is wonderfully fragrant.

Thank you for the compliment — and the source. I have it bookmarked!

Those are awsome. I’ve crocheted a little in my life, but I never thought of curtains. Hey I’m looking for a crochet pattern for small flowers. I’ve seen them and they can be appliqued onto to other stuff. Do you know what I’m talking about? When finished they are about 2″ dia.
Thanks,
Margo

Sure, I’ve got several flower patterns.

We’re going out of town tomorrow, so I don’t have time to dig them out now. But, I will as soon as we get back next week.

Are you looking for patterns to use with doily size thread or worsted weight yarn?

Amazing!

Hi,

I love those curtains on the windows.

I have found some crocheted curtains, but am afraid to hang them. Just wondering if the curtains sag due to their weight. Maybe sewing them on to a backing will help, but not sure if I should sew them horizontally or vertically or both ways.

Thanks.

They will stretch some, but not as much as you may think. Just use rings with clips to hang – no need to sew!

When I have my crochet curtains open, they don’t open out as much as they do at the top. Is there a way to fix this. I love the way yours stay stretched the same amount across the window. Mine are full length, but they don’t want to hang the way yours do.

In my earlier post, I meant to say they don’t stretch out as much at the bottom as they do at the top when I want to have my curtains open.

Loveit, have you tried blocking them?

Loveit August 19, 2010 at 12:14 pm

No, I haven’t. I will give it a try. Do you think I should use starch or try without starch?

Thanks.

Try without starch.
