Dishcloths

in Knitting

Yes, even though I’ve been extremely busy with our new home and launching several new business ventures, I have had just a little smidgen of time to do some knitting. Dishcloths have been my choice as of late.

dishclothsDishcloths are wonderful to practice new patterns and techniques that you’re unfamiliar with. Perhaps you’ll even figure out what you’ve been doing wrong – like me!

Since I’ve started knitting, my yarn overs never left the pretty little hole that they were supposed to leave. In the past, I’ve given up on patterns that were intended to be lacy, because – well – my versions were NEVER lacy! Now I know why!

As you can see by the picture above, the first repeat of the pattern (the bottom of the picture) is completely tight – no holes. For kicks, I experimented with knitting into the back of the yar over. Sure enough, a cute little hole appeared. Evidently, my yarn overs are backwards – twisted if you will.

Since then I’ve attempted to force my fingers to yarn over properly and quickly with no success. So, I’ve decided to let my fingers do what they want and just knit into the back on the next row or round.

For the dishcloths pictured at top of this post, I downloaded freebie patterns on the internet. It was a great way to get started. However, I’ve discovered that it is just as easy to choose a pattern from a pattern book or a magazine.
Just be sure to get the multiple stitch count correct for your pattern. Then, add 8 stitches — to create a 4 stitch garter on each side. Cast on, knit 4 rows of garter, then begin your pattern. After completing as many pattern repeats as you want, add another 4 rows of garter and cast off. Simple really!

I love doing dishcloths. As well as being great practice projects, if you goof, it’s not a big deal to rip it and start again. And, they are extremely quick to make — even when you’re running on fast forward!

I love the dishcloths!
I’m trying to finish a scarf for my sister at the moment – it’s a really easy pattern but I’m just getting so fed up with it – I’m just over halfway and trying to keep my momentum going as I need to finis it for Christmas and I have so many other projects I want to do – any suggestions?!

LOL. I’ve been working on the same pair of socks for a month ;) So, I don’t think I’ll be of much help.

Sorry for the late response. I’ve been terribly neglectful of both blog and knitting!
