DOUBLE-ENDED CROCHET

1

After finishing my knitted socks, I intended to do some cross-stitch projects I’ve had on hold for a long time. But, our house has sold and we’re moving, so I thought a quicker and more portable project was in order.

Stitches that only look good from one side is a pet-peeve of mine. Whether it be knitting, or crocheting I prefer patterns that are reversible — that look good on either side.

This little swatch here is done with double-ended crochet.

Look closely at the needle and you’ll see a hook at both ends. Double-ended crochet, or Crochnit (I think that’s a trademarked term) as it’s sometimes called, is very similar to afghan crochet where you draw up loops in one direction and crochet them off coming back. In essence, there are two step to every row.

In double-ended crochet, however, the work can be turned and worked in the other direction. The fabric this creates is wonderful and totally reversible. I’ll be playing with some stitch patterns over the next few weeks – in between packing and moving.

On the Knitter’s Forum – crochet section – a poster took a shot at “what people crochet”. LOL. I get what the poster is saying. I myself have seen some unbelievably ugly things. However, I take offense at the mention of tissue covers.

They’re not old fashioned! It’s called kitsch, people! ;) I did this one just about a year ago. Awww, it looks like a turtle neck for the tissue. I like it!
