A LOVELY STASH

5

I keep my stash in an old German “shrank” that has been in my family for years. It’s a little beat up and it doesn’t go with anything else in my house, but – ya know – it has sentimental value. What better place to store coveted fiber?!

As I’ve been a crocheter for a long, long time, the top shelf behind the double doors on the right holds all my doily thread (does thread count in the Stash Contest?) along with old odds and ends of yarn.

The open space between the doors on the right and the sliding door on the left holds what I call “bulk” yarn — I bought bulk, because I planned bigger projects for these. Ah, yeah, sometimes I can’t remember for which project, exactly, each yarn was meant. :)
Then, behind the slider is even more yarn. The pile of white is beautiful cotton yarn I got at the thrift store for about $5. (I gave some of it to my sister-in-law.) I intend to use it for dishcloths so as to practice stitch patterns.

To the side of the shrank you can see a small shelf that also holds some of my stash. And, on top of the shrank are 10 balls of Classic Elite Provence Egyptian cotton — by far my most costly yarn splurge. The bulk of my stash, believe it or not, has been purchased at thrift stores. See the four little skeins of gray on the bottom corner of the little shelf? It’s silk — got all 4 for a $1! — dunno what I’m going to do with it yet :)

Oh, I almost forgot this. It wouldn’t fit in the shrank, so it’s hanging out in the closet. This was intended for that Cascading Leaves project that I nixed.

The very bottom doors of the shrank hold old frames that I’ve collected for cross stitch/hardanger projects. The narrow door under the sliding door section tilts down and that is where I keep all my needlework cloth/fabric.
Anyway, there is my lovely stash. And, yes, like other yarnsters I crave even MORE! LOL. Thank goodness yarn is fat free ;)
