ONE PROJECT AT A TIME

1

Hmmm. I’m hearing from other yarnsters that they have several projects going at once. Not I. One at a time, my dear, one at a time. Kind of like men.

If you mosey through my blog  (click on the hooks & needles tab) you’ll see the curtain project that took months and months and months … and months. Even though I promised myself a quick, down and dirty project, I’m on to the lovely blue leaf afghan. I think I like torturing myself. But, here’s a gander at my very first knitting project. Now be kind and don’t laugh too loudly.

It’s a hat, mittens (if you want to call them that) and scarf set from a kit I picked up at Target. I believe the kits are called “Make This”. I’ve got a couple of others, too.

The project went pretty quick — I worked on it during my lunch hour at work while I worked on my curtains at home at night. Huh. Guess that makes me a two projects at a time chick after all ;)

The scarf came out alright. The stitches are a bit uneven, but I can live with that.

The hat came next. I made it twice. It came out way too small the first time — and the seaming was even worse than this :) But, before I ripped it out and re-knitted it, I made the mittens just to be sure I’d have enough yarn in the kit.

I purposely took a picture of the seamed side, because I think it’s important for new knitters to see that we ALL struggle at first. Doing it is the only way I know of to learn something new and learn it well.
While I won’t be wearing this set in public, I’ll keep them. Perhaps someday I rip them apart and reuse the yarn. In the meantime, I’ll just keep plugging away.

First of all. I am the moderator for Knitwits and Hookers on Ravelry.com. I posed a challenge to our group to indulge in each other’s projects and blogs. I am reading yours right now. I completely agreee with this post. One project at a time for me too. But I usually have one large stitch projoct and one small stitch project to save myself from carpel tunnel.
