FRENCH KITCHEN CURTAINS

I think they look French. What do you think? It was my latest project that I FINALLY completed. From October 2006 until March 2007 – with a few breaks for the holidays – saw me hooking away! By the time I got to the third curtain, I was cussing myself for taking on such a huge project. My husband doesn’t understand when I say HUGE. Granted they’re simply topper valances, but making one in size 10 cotton thread TAKES FOREVER!!

It was worth it, though. I now have unique, three-of-a-kind lace for my front windows. (When it gets dark tonight, I’ll go out and snap a few pics of how they look from the exterior). The blue sheers are JC Penney Lisettes I’m rethinking that decision, but I bought them a year ago. I don’t think they’ll let me exchange them.
I’d like to see what blue toile or a blue gingham would look like. Alas, I’m employed right now — new curtains are definitely NOT in the budget!! I’ll live with the sheers for the time being.
What I really love about this pattern is the header.
The slits for the rod are actually worked first, then below the header is worked for as long as necessary (or as long as you can stand!). The top of the header is worked next. Finally, a border of simple chain loops completes the curtain.

And, that’s how you crochet LOVELY French curtains — in 6 months. LOL.
At the final stages of this project, I promised myself to take on a short project next time. Yeah, promises, promises. A knit afghan requiring 48 individual squares is what I’m working on now. Did I mention I’m a crazy yarn lady?
